Manifesting Design Trends - What Kate Hopes to See More, and Less of in 2025

This week, Kate FitzGerald-Wilks of Timeless Design by Kate FitzGerald- Wilks is sharing her vision for design trends in 2025—one that embraces personal connection, craftsmanship, and a curated approach. Here’s what she’s hoping we’ll see more of, and what she’s eager to leave behind.

More of:

  1. Found Items with History - Kate believes in the magic of pieces with a past. From vintage furniture to unique antiques, incorporating items that tell a story adds depth and character to any space. It’s about creating an environment that feels lived in and meaningful, rather than simply following trends.

  2. Custom Pieces and Bespoke Design - When it comes to designing a home, Kate advocates for customization. Tailored pieces that fit the specific needs of a space make a home feel truly unique. Whether it’s a hand-crafted table or custom upholstery, bespoke design elevates any room by ensuring it’s not only functional but deeply personal.

Less of:

  1. Bouclé - While the fluffy, teddy-bear texture of bouclé has dominated interiors in recent years, Kate is ready to move on. The fabric has been everywhere, and its over-saturation has led to a loss of its charm. Expect to see it take a step back in favor of more understated, timeless textiles.

  2. Color Drenching (Done Wrong) - Color drenching can create a stunning, immersive atmosphere when executed with intention. However, Kate warns that it’s a trend that’s easy to get wrong. Overuse of one bold color can overwhelm a space rather than enhance it. She expects the trend to date itself.

This year, Kate’s design philosophy encourages a more thoughtful, bespoke approach to interiors. By focusing on custom pieces and embracing the history of found items, we can create spaces that are as meaningful as they are beautiful. Say goodbye to oversaturated trends and hello to a more curated, timeless aesthetic.
